The Exigent Duality
Yikes, Lazio 1 Bologna 3 - 16:50 CDT, 3/11/12 (Sniper)
I wrote about this over a month ago-- these days under Reja the team is like a yo-yo. In that post, I laid out the inconsistent form, and you can continue it from there with a loss to Atletico, followed by the big loss to Palermo, followed by a dramatic win against Roma, but then right back to a thumping by Bologna, where we're currently down to nine men and looked like we were going to lose the minute the game started.

I know the injury situation has played a big role in the inconsistency-- one look at the almost absurdly bad first-half performance by Zauri clearly illustrates that at the end of the day it is down to the players. But the mentality from our team just seems off too often for me to be comfortable. Today, we looked lackadaisacal and cocky-- it wasn't until we went down by two goals that I saw even a remote sense of urgency.

It didn't help that every time Bologna touched the ball they scored-- a lot of luck from them today. The first goal was a Zauri mistake, no question, but I say Diamanti hits that second goal one time in ten-- and why in blazes didn't Zauri just slide and block it?-- and the third goal was another one-in-ten strike that happened to go in. Pretty unfortunate for us really that they score three goals on basically three chances all game.

And of course it's like we can't get our heads above water; every time we get someone back from injury or suspension, someone else goes down or out. Now we have suspensions to Matuzalem and Gonzalez to deal with.
